More Than Conquerors

Waiting on God

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine life the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.” Psalm 37:2-9

People tend to want to always be doing things, never waiting, but pressing on in impatience. But just as we are often called to do things in faith, God calls us many times to wait in faith. This can be more difficult than doing something in faith, because we don’t like sitting still.

When we press on in a hurry we live according to our own plans. But God wants us to wait until He reveals Himself, and then walk the path He shows. If we can’t wait on God’s timing we will never see the plans He had for us. Lost in our impatience we will have nothing but our own knowledge to direct our paths, and become lost in a labyrinth of meaningless busyness.

Waiting

Waiting again, oh how can it be?
Don’t You know Lord, can’t You see?
My impatience surrounds me, my frustration roars
I cannot wait one more minute, my soul is torn!

How long will I be in this dark waiting room?
How long will You leave me in agony and gloom?
Must I sit here and wait and wonder and fret
must I worry anxiously wondering did You forget?

The days just go on, the nights are so long
I pray for an answer to why things are so wrong
But no answer comes, the silence is loud
The heaviness hangs over me like a thick black cloud.

But just as I’m ready to throw up my hands
I hear that small voice whisper, “Child, now understand.
I love you so much, I needed your time
To be quiet and listen so you I could tune fine.”

The more I was quiet and listened to Him,
I realized the answer was where it had been.
The waiting, the stillness, the quiet was good
It’s all that I needed and all that I would.

To wait and to trust, to listen and hear
Gave me peace and assurance, my Jesus was near!
Though waiting was hard I learned more then was told
My soul was tried but I came forth as gold!

I am impatient and in a hurry
Never slowing down to look to You.
My days blur together, never ending—
I am not broken yet, but I am bending.

I can’t take the rush anymore:
I break, falling at Your feet.
Hoping You will take Your child in Your arms
And calm all her fears and mend all the harms.

I feel refreshed and new,
Like a sea after a storm.
I am now looking to You for everything.
Help me to always turn to You, my King.

Each Day You’ll Help me Get Through

There’s broken threads in my way
That kept my future safe
Today they’re weak and frayed
Perhaps weakening my faith

But I can bow my head in prayer
For my trust I put in you
I’ll grieve no more, your joy I’ll store
Each day you’ll help me get through

Tomorrow will bridge a new trial
I’ll not fret of it today
I’ll read your word with a smile
And chase the glooms away

My heart, you nourish it and cherish it
For my trust I put in you
I’ll grieve no more, your joy I’ll store
Each day you’ll help me get through

refreshing
breeze/water/Word
washing over me
clean
dropping ... what was that I was holding?

wind
blowing away stale air

spring
changing winter’s worries

I am so glad I am not 100% in charge
I am so glad
and so glad that we can swap stories from just a moment ago
we were just frazzled, you and I, frazzled just a moment ago
and then
refreshment came
I am so glad
the Gardener
is tender

You said you couldn’t wait, and so
You chased your fleeing dreams on foot,
And I am hoping you won’t fall
As I in patience have stayed put.

I could have followed you, I know,
But paths that way are laced with traps,
So I can’t recklessly go out
Until I have received a map.

And in my patience I was blessed,
A gift was given by the king:
No longer shall I walk with danger,
’Cause I’ve been given eagle’s wings!

Peaceful Waters

Hear the peaceful waters
Lapping on the shore,
As you gaze into the calming depths
For all you’re searching for.

God is already there, so close
Offering amazing grace,
His gentle Hand is near to hold
Look now into His loving face.

Rest in the shelter of His peace
Draw of His sweet refreshing love,
For the treasures buried in His heart
Will always be enough.

“God is down in front. He is in the tomorrows.
It is tomorrow that fills men with dread. God
is there already. All the tomorrows of our
life have to pass Him before they can get to us.”
Frederick Brotherton (F. B.) Meyer

Waiting

Lie, little cow, and chew thy cud,
The farmer soon will shift thy tether;
Chrip, linnet, on the frozen mud,
Sun and song will come together;
Wait, woul, for God, and thou shalt bud,
He waits thy waiting with his weather.

—George MacDonald

Refuge
Can my soul survive much more
While searching for a perfect peace,
Can I find one that can rescue
To be my sure defense.
Nowhere else is near to comfort,
None can still my aching heart,
So my soul must turn to God for all,
 For He will ne’er depart.
I can pour out every pain before Him,
To be the refuge that I seek,
I long to rest within His favor,
His blessing, is my need.
My soul cries for the love of God,
I thirst for help in this parched land,
I want to see His power and glory,
So in His strength I stand.
His kindness flows down to me,
So my lips burst forth in song,
He made me and He bought me
To Him my life belongs
I call out in the dark of night,
Hide me safe beneath Your wings,
Then He reaches near to hold me,
I am kept now, by the King of Kings.

“Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I, For You have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in Your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him.”
Psalm 61:1-4, 62:1

Question Marks

You were a calligrapher
When it came to question marks,
I would wait for the response
But you’d leave me in the dark

As you lavishly would pen
Strokes with elegant design:
First you’d primly sweep a hook,
Then you’d dot a break in time—

Now I’ve come to do that, too,
Loving the elaborate curve;
Making art from question marks,
Leaving answers in reserve;

Though before I hated pauses,
I have learned to wait them through,
Knowing that the answer comes
When the chosen time is due.

—Benjamin Graber

All is well
I will not fret
for God is working,
working yet

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or
nakedness or danger or sword?… No, in all these things
we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
