Prayer to the All-Knowing God

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (Matthew 6:9-13)

We need to be careful that when we pray we don’t pray as if God is some type of genie who is supposed to give us whatever we want whenever we want it. Too often we pray as if we are trying to manipulate God into doing what we want Him to do.
Instead of treating God as our slave, let us treat Him as the all-knowing God that He is. Let us learn to pray as Jesus taught us to pray, saying “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. God knows what is best. Let us learn to pray for the desires of His heart instead of our own. Let us learn to bring Him our needs and desires in humility as servants, instead of in pride as the one in command.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

The Prayer

If ent’ring clothed in shining white
Or kneeling in the dead of night;
If raising supplicating pleas
Or hugging closely to our knees;

If singing underneath the skies
Or softly sobbing weary sighs;
If laying out our cares and woes
Or noting all that He bestows:

Reminding Him as He commands
And placing all into His hands.
Imploring through the Name we trust
Of One Who loves to hear from us.

—Samuel Popiel

Another Lesson In Prayer

Lord, thank you for a new revelation
Of my prayer life, today.
How is it, I never listened before
How to pray Your way?

How many times
Have I brought petitions
For miracles, in the life of others,
Trying not to pray in vain repetitions?

As I started praying, this morning,
Your spirit flooded me with the very thought
You had seen this very battle before time began.
T’was nothing new I’ve brought.

I heard you speaking to me,
“I appreciate the appeal, from you.
But, are you really seeking out my will
Or did you pray your instructions
Of what you think or feel?

My ways are not yours, always.
Just bring the request and leave it here.
I will work it to the good.
My way is pure.  Have no fear.”

“My child you see things differently,
Not the same as I do.
But, I can be trusted for the right answer.
I don’t need instructions, now, from you.”

You are redeemed by my grace,
A child of my love, but still ~
Let Me move, in Holiness and truth.
Let go and let me move as I will.”

To say I was humbled
With the impact of His word;
He pressed my spirit, with all love,
In a way I had never heard.

I’m so sorry, Lord.  I do forget,
With you there is nothing impossible or new.
I need only bring the request
And leave the how or way to you.

From now on, help me, Lord,
Learn to ask, with out telling just how
To accomplish your precious ending;
Starting right here and now.

I need to be humbled, often.
For, sometimes, I feel I know what’s best
When the truth lies in your hands,
Each and every request.

Help me to be a better warrior
That knows the way to your throne of grace.
Then, help me leave the burdens there;
Not to instruct my way, just to state my case.

Thank you for loving me enough
To show me the better way;
To seek to know your heart much better,
In all matters, as I pray.

I give you praise, from humbled lips.
Blessed be your name, my Lord, my King.
Let my prayers be left with you,
For your will is perfect; for what ever I may bring.

And, when I say amen, I will know
That, in your hands, ‘tis done;
That Your grace still abounds
For me and every one.

AMEN AND AMEN, AND AMEN.

Answering Prayer

It’s like you snap your fingers
Expecting instant service—
You speak your magic prayer
And when the answer doesn’t come
In seconds, you wonder if God’s real
Or if He really cares.

But I have seen the seasons change
And I believe God answers prayers
Not like a humble slave,
But like the Mastermind He is,
He lays the puzzle pieces down,
In perfect timing comes to save.

Tossed to the Wind

I tore my dreams in two
And tossed them to the wind,
Then watched them blow away
To where they never can be found.

I mourned my bitter loss,
And thought my heart would break,
But when I die for you
Much greater blessings will come back:

When dreams are given wings
Of noble sacrifice
They reach the Throne of God
And there they boldly plead my case,

And then my Loving Father
Constructs a dream so grand
All heaven stands in awe
Of every detail He has planned!

Join Hearts In Praise

Oh ~ who will come and go with me,
unto the Father’s Throne;
To worship and adore and praise our God,
and Him alone?

And thank Him for His love divine,
sweet mercy without end;
His great Provision, faithfulness, long-suff’ring,
Treasured Friend.

The ONE who joins His heart with ours, in sunshine
or in rain;
Who shelters us beneath His wings, from fear
and deepest pain.

Who hears each prayer and answers, as on
our tongues they linger, still;
Moves mountains standing in our way by
the Power of His WILL!

Oh ~ who will raise their voices high,
anthems gladly  sing;
HALLELUJAHS ~ PRAISES to our Lord
of Lords and KING of KINGS?

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will shew forth all thy marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing
praise to thy name, O thou most High.

Psalm 9:1-2

Begging

The tears have daily washed my face
And I, like Esther, trembling, come
Before the Unapproachable
To beg a favor from the One—

I’ve carried you to see the King,
And now I bring you to His throne,
And ask that somehow He would move
To bring an end to pain you’ve known—

I know not if the trials will end,
I know not if He’ll give you rest,
But waves of peace have come to me—
I know He’ll do what He knows best.

Prayer

We doubt the word that tells us: Ask,
And ye shall have your prayer;
We turn our thoughts as to a task,
With will constrained and rare.

And yet we have; these scanty prayers
Yield gold without alloy:
O God, but he that trusts and dares
Must have a boundless joy!

—George MacDonald

Rain That Falls Up

Tears are rain that fall up,
And moisten heaven’s grass,
Every one’s collected
In special flasks of glass—

God then takes each tear flask
And makes the perfect deal:
Pain for perseverance
With extra love to heal—

Then He takes these treasures
And pours them down on us—
We, indebted to Him,
Are strengthened through distress.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or
nakedness or danger or sword?… No, in all these things
we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
—Romans 8:35, 37
