To find the secret to life it only makes sense to go to the source of life for the answer. If we want to have purpose in our lives we must search out the plans of the Creator. What does He have to say about life?

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” —Matthew 22:37-40

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” —John 15:12-13

When Jesus spoke of love, he didn’t mean the emotional attraction that we often use the word “love” for. He meant the sacrificial laying down of our own desires for the good of another. This love is the secret to life, which we so often miss because we get caught up in ourselves and completely forget about those around us.

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I am nothing.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” —1 Corinthians 13:1-8
